The Rank System and Promotion Testing
Goal Setting and Achievement: The cornerstone of the Martial Arts
Conceiving a long-term vision . . . Breaking that vision down into short-term goals . . . applying one-self to achieving those goals . . . working hard day-in and day-out to achieve . . . these are the characteristics of a black belt and someone who has the tools to succeed in all other facets of life.
The Rank and Promotion System is one of the foundational elements of Taekwondo. Not only do the belts serve as mile markers in the road, but the challenges surmounted at each step build us into what we hope to become.
The student and family of the student must understand the centrality of the Promotion System to their training and life goals. A student who does not show the consistency and effort required to promote regularly will ultimately run out of steam. A student who attends regularly, makes up missed classes, practices as required at home and gives it their all will succeed in our program and will have a template for success at future endeavors.
Please read this section in its entirety and fully understand the Rank Systems, the Promotion Test Cycles, and the Testing Qualification (tape testing) process. If you have any additional questions left unanswered, please send us a comment below or speak to an instructor at the dojang.
